If you’re like me and enjoy an afternoon spent sipping wine in the sun, then you’ll want to treat yourself to an experience at Frogmore Creek, one of the best wineries only a short drive from Hobart city. For wine-makers, brewers and distillers alike, Tasmania has proved itself to be a gold-mine for production of world-class wines and spirits. The cooler climate, hill-country and rich soils provide the perfect home for top-tier vineyards. So, it’s understandable the all the best wine-makers would want to journey here for a piece of the pie.
For all you wine-lovers out there, seriously consider a little getaway dedicated to wine touring around Tasmania.
Frogmore Creek Venue
The best thing about Frogmore Creek Winery is that it combines all the best bits of Tasmania into one luxurious package; Beautiful landscapes, fine food, natural lighting and of course excellent wine. Featuring an open-plan, barn-style restaurant with walls of windows to let the warm sun stream in. You can lounge in the open-air with their outdoor Esplanade, perfect for feeling like you’re on holiday.
Situated on Richmond Road in Cambridge, it is the ideal distance from Hobart. Even for those of you without a car, an uber can cost less than $40! Their restaurant is surrounded by windows that let the sun and light stream in and offers a stunning view overlooking the vineyards and the Derwent River that snakes through the hills beyond.

Frogmore Creek Food
Frogmore has a delectable menu of plates from ‘ then Land’, ‘the Garden’ and ‘the Sea’ that are perfect for sharing, so take your friends and try them all! Their restaurant is up-market which makes it a great place to celebrate special occasions, but don’t go when you’re super hungry 🙂
Their salmon ceviche is awesome with the soy gel and wasabi mayonnaise. I had my first beef carpaccio and what a great introduction. Especially when it’s served with confit garlic and anchovy mayonnaise, every morsel packs a punch of flavour and balanced textures – I particularly like it with the gherkin chips. Their runway model of beetroot salads belongs on the cover of a magazine and is great with the caramel and pistachio dukkha.
From my experience the second time, I found my two favourite dishes. The octopus tortellini is divine, perfect when combined with the chorizo. But the Pork Belly is the star of the show; juicy, tender and accompanied with a pulled pork croquette – my mouth still waters.
Of course, don’t shy away from their unique and decadent desserts. My personal recommendations are the Lavender field – a blueberry panna cotta, lavender cream with a violet sponge. For chocolate lovers, you can’t go past their Saturn dessert – a rich chocolate mousse, hazelnut crumb served with a refreshing raspberry sorbet.
Frogmore Creek Wines
I won’t pretend to know anything about wines so all I’ll say is Frogmore Creek is well renowned for their cool-climate wines which gives the fruits long growing seasons. My personal recommendation is their 2019 FGR Riesling. As a lover of reds, I can say this Riesling is one of the best white wines I have ever had.
Bonus Tip: Continue along the same road to Pooleys winery and stop there for a bite of woodfired pizza and a glass of wine while overlooking the gorgeous town of Richmond.
Frogmore Creek is a must-visit venue for great food, gorgeous scenery and attentive wait-staff. Take a break from sight-seeing and revive yourself in this tranquil setting.
